What Causes Acne?

 

What causes Acne?  No one can point to just one item that causes acne.  Everyone is different and everyone is unique.

Some of the research suggests that hormonal changes at puberty for both the male and female is What Causes Acne.  Hormonal changes at puberty can enlarge the pores and encourage an increase in sebum (the skin’s natural oil of protection).  Some research suggests that diet contributes to the Cause of Acne.  Eating a diet high in dairy or carbohydrate rich foods that increase the blood sugar can trigger acne.  Some research suggests that you may be predisposed to acne, and this is What Causes Acne.  They feel if your parents or other family members had acne then your chances of having acne are much higher.  Some research suggests that certain medications can cause or trigger acne.  Athletes or body builders that take steroids are at risk of getting acne.

Here is what we do know.  Three factors do contribute to What Causes Acne.  They are:

  • Over-production of oil (sebum)
  • Irregular shedding of the dead skin cells resulting in the irritation of the hair follicle
  • Buildup of bacteria

Have you heard the saying “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of Cure”.  Prevention is the key to Acne.  For some, prevention may result in not having acne, while in others the prevention may result in mild acne and not severe acne.

Prevention steps and it does not matter if you are male or female:

Daily skin care routine – the key here is consistency.  Wash your face with a mild cleanser both morning and night, followed by a toner to make sure all traces of dirt or makeup are gone, followed by an oil free moisturizer.  Oily skin still needs a moisturizer to help seal in the moisture.

Daily use of a sunscreen – sunscreen protects the skin and helps prevent skin damage caused by the sun.  Wear it under your makeup.

Drink plenty of water daily – stay well hydrated and flush out the toxins that are in your system.  Well-hydrated skin can shed the dead skin cells normally.

Healthy diet – eat healthier and live longer with beautiful youthful glowing skin.

Avoid touching your face — Your fingers touch so many things during the day and when you touch your face with your fingers, you leave behind whatever was on your fingers.

Hair and skin Products – your skin and scalp will tell you if the chemicals in the products are irritating. Discontinue using products that cause redness, itching, rash, swelling, etc.

Stress – find ways to reduce or manage your stress level in your life.
